Pyrimidine dimer DNA glycosylases excise pyrimidine dimers by hydrolysis of the glycosylic bond of the 5' pyrimidine, followed by the intra-pyrimidine phosphodiester bond. Pyrimidine dimers are the major UV-lesions of DNA.
