This short protein is found in the nif (nitrogen fixation) operon. Its function is unknown but is probably involved in nitrogen fixation or regulating some component of this process. This 75 residue region is presumed to be a domain. It is found in isolation in some members and in the amino terminal half of the longer NifZ proteins.
