This family consists of several antifreeze proteins from the insect Choristoneura fumiferana (Spruce budworm). Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) and antifreeze glycoproteins (AFGPs) are present in many organisms that must survive sub-zero temperatures. These proteins bind to seed ice crystals and inhibit their growth through an adsorption-inhibition mechanism [1].
