Dam-replacing protein (DRP) is an restriction endonuclease that is flanked by pseudo-transposable small repeat elements. The replacement of Dam-methylase by DRP allows phase variation through slippage-like mechanisms in several pathogenic isolates of Neisseria meningitidis [1].
