Mutations in this domain in Swiss:P28288 are believed responsible for Zellweger Syndrome-2 [1]; mutations in Swiss:P33897 are responsible for recessive X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy [2]. A Saccharomyces cerevisiae homolog is involved in the import of long-chain fatty acids [3].
