Mer2 (Rec107) forms part of a complex that is required for meiotic double strand DNA break formation. Mer2 increases in abundance and is phosphorylated during the prophase phase of cell division [1]. Blocking double strand break formation results in delayed dephosphorylation and dissociation of Mer2 from the chromosome [1].
