RILP contains a domain which contains two coiled-coil regions and is found mainly in the cytosol. RILP is recruited onto late endosomal and lysosomal membranes by Rab7 and acts as a downstream effector of Rab7. This recruitment process is important for phagosome maturation and fusion with late endosomes and lysosomes [1].
