| PF14859 | Colicin M | family |
Colicin M is a toxin produced by, and active against, Escherichia coli. It catalyses the hydrolysis of lipid I and lipid II peptidoglycan intermediates, therefore inhibiting peptidoglycan biosynthesis and leading to lysis of the bacterial cells [1].
1: Colicin M exerts its bacteriolytic effect via enzymatic degradation of undecaprenyl phosphate-linked peptidoglycan precursors. El Ghachi M, Bouhss A, Barreteau H, Touze T, Auger G, Blanot D, Mengin-Lecreulx D; J Biol Chem. 2006;281:22761-22772. PMID:16777846
