The nucleolar protein SWM2 (Synthetic With MUD-2-delta protein2) constitutes a yeast protein family. SWM2 is a nonessential gene whose function is unknown, but it encodes a protein that binds Tgs1, an enzyme responsible for 2,2,7-trimethylguanosine (TMG) capping [1,2] of small nuclear (sn) RNAs implicated in pre-mRNA splicing [3].
