This family of uncharacterised proteins is found in Bacteroidetes. Proteins is these family are likely to be related to the Gliding motility-associated protein GldC, a protein linked to a type of rapid surface gliding motility found in certain Bacteroidetes such as Cytophaga johnsonae (Flavobacterium johnsoniae) and Cytophaga hutchinsonii [1]. Gliding motility appears closely linked to chitin utilisation in the model species C. johnsonae.
