BRCA1 plays a role in transcriptional regulation and the cellular response to DNA damage. Inherited breast and ovarian cancers are linked to mutations in Brca1 gene. BRCA1 is capable of nucleo-cytoplasmic shuttling. BRCA1 exits the nucleus via CRM1-dependent pathway. AA 81-99 is sufficient to promote the export of fusion proteins.
