FANCA belongs to the family of proteins that is linked to Fanconi anemia. These are nine proteins that include BRCA1 and BRCA2. They are involved in homolgous recombination repair of chromosomal double-strand breaks produced by cross-linking agents in the nucleus. FANCA forms multiprotein complex with five other proteins. Ferrer et al. found that FANCA shuttles and identified five leucine-rich NESs.
