NC2β and NC2α are the two subunits of the negative cofactor 2 complex, which is associated with the promotor-bound TATA-binding protein and inhibits transcription initiation. Both NC2β and NC2α have a monopartie classic NLS and both NLSs are necessary for nuclear import of the NC2 complex. In addition, the NC2 complex can enters the nucleus via Importin 13, which binds to neirther NC2β or NC2α as a subunit. The NES at NC2β is masked with NC2β forms heterodimer with NC2α.
