RoXan is a cellular protein that can interact with rotavirus nonstructural protein (NP3) via its own Leucine-aspartic domain (LD domain). The LD domain contains a putative NES signal, which can direct the export of a reporter protein. In uninfected cells, RoXan is in the nucleus, whereas in the course of rotavirus infection, the nucleus is depleted of RoXan. It was postulated that RoXan mediates the cellular localization of poly(A)-binding protein (PABP-C1).
