Comments
Oct-6 is a class III POU protein, characterized by both POU domain and a homodomain. Oct-6 plays important role in nervous system development. Baranek et al. showed that Oct-6 shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm due to the presence of both NLS and NES. Nuclear export mutants or LMB treatment will have decreased transactivation activity. The authors pointed out that the NES in Oct-6 is conserved in most other POU proteins and some other homodomain proteins.
Doubt about NES: The proposed NES didn't bind CRM1 in GST-pulldown assay (Chook lab, unpublished results).

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
