Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 protein, Ataxin-7, is seen both in the nucleus and cytoplasm in live cells and contains a highly conserved NES at amino acids 341-352. Mutation in the NES of polyglutamine expanded ataxin-7 increased toxicity in primary cerebellar neurons.
