Comments
c-Abl is a protein tyrosine kinase implicated in the regulation of gene expression. Despite of the presence of three NLSs, it is not exclusively nuclear. c-Abl is exported from the nucleus in response to attachment of cells to the extracellular matrix (ECM). Note that there is a 26 aa difference between the retrieved sequence and the one in the Taagepera paper.
Doubts about NES: NMR structure of the FABD domain of c-Abl indicated that most of the hydrophobic residues of the putative NES are buried. In the same paper, it was shown that the putative NES cannot bind CRM1 in the context of the FABD domain and FABD is not exported from the nucleus. User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
