ANCO-1 belongs to the family of ankyrin repeat-containing cofactors of nuclear receptors (NRs). It interacts with p160 (NR coactivators) and histone deacetylases (HDAC) and repress ligand dependent transactivation by NRs. ANCO-1 contains multpile functional NLSs. But the one located at 80-86 is the most critical one. The NES identified here seems to be the only one since other fragments of ANCO-1 is not LMB sensitive.
