Comments
RelA belongs to the NF-κB family and forms a heterodimer with p50. RelA contains the transactivation domain, while p50 modulate the DNA-binding affinity of RelA. RelA/p50 is normally sequestered in the cytoplasm in association with the inhibitor IκBα, which binds and masks the NLS. Harhaj et al. showed that RelA contains an NES that keeps RelA in cytoplasm when expressed alone. However, when co-expressed with p50, both proteins become nuclear. Note that the author didn't specify the residue numbers used in the experiment. AA 436-445 was not definite. Maybe they used 421-450. Use this with caution.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
