Comments
Sirt1 is a mammalian ortholog of yeast Sir2. It is an NAD+ dependent histone deacetylase that regulates metabolic response in adipocytes and liver. The localization of Sirt1 varies in different tissues and cells in response to physiological and pathological stimuli. Tanno et al. showed that Sirt1 is a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein. Two NESs were identified. The C-terminal one has a much stronger nuclear export activity than the N-terminal NES.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
