Comments
NOA1 is a mitochondrial GTPase that is involved in the regulation of mitochondrial protein translation and oxidative phosphorylation. Al-Furoukh et al revealed that NOA1 can be shuttled to the nucleus by an NLS and exported to the cytoplasm by an NES before being targeted to the mitochondria by the MTS (mitochondria targeting signal). LMB-sensitivity was seen in endogenous protein indicating CRM1-dependent export. A putative NES matching a reverse consensus was found to be sufficient in directing GFP-fusion protein to exit the nucleus in a LMB-sensitive manner, however the sequence is part of the bZIP leucine zipper dimerization domain and is unclear if this region is exposed in context of full-length protein.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
