Comments
Periaxin is a non-compact myelin protein in the nervous system. Its cellular localization changes as axon ensheathment occurs and is found mainly in the plasma membrane of myelinating Schwann cells, but has also been found in the nucleus in young cells. Shi et al. found that the N-terminal PDZ domain 18-102 has LMB-sensitive nuclear export activity. Putative NES is identified in 73-86, however it does not fully match traditional NES consensus. Additionally, X-ray structure of the PDZ domain showed that the putative NES is part of a folded domain and the hydrophobic residues are not solvent exposed.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
