Comments
MEX3C is a member of the RNA-binding protein family with four highly homologous members (MEX3A-D) and contains a C-terminal RING finger domain. Li et al. showed that the longest isofrom of MEX3C (659AA) appears to have a putative NES in 48-59 which matches traditional NES consensus. Introduction of 48-59 from this isoform to a shorter one lacking the first 195 residues enabled LMB-sensitive nuclear export and enrichment of poly(A)+ RNA. MEX3C may be a RNA adaptor for CRM1 RNA export and FOS may be one of those targets.
