Comments
Jacobs et al. identified a putative NES in Chikungunya virus capsid protein (residues 44-53) by homology to the VEEV capsid protein (entry#144). Both LMB treatment and NES mutation caused nuclear accumulation of over-expressed GFP-fusion full length Capsid protein or by infection. Interestingly, wild type CHIKV capsid protein does not block nuclear import of a fluorescent reporter like the WT VEEV capsid protein; while the NES mutant does, in contrast to VEEV NES mutant that doesn't.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
