Comments
One of the HSV tegument protein responsible for activating immediate-early genes. Funk et al. found this protein to have nuclear export activity using Nuclear EXport Trapped by RAPamycin (NEX-TRAP). Assay for LMB sensitivity using Myc-tagged protein showed exclusive nuclear localization of pUL48 and therefore LMB sensitivity was not established. However, X-ray structure shows the NES in the core of an alpha helical domain that appears inaccessible for CRM1 interaction.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
