COP1 controls the light-responsive gene expression and photomorphogenic development. Yi et al. characterized COP1 genes in mammalian cells and found that they are associated with ubiquitinated proteins. Mammalian COP1 is localized predominantly in the nucleus, present in both the nucleoplasm and the nuclear envelop. AA 226-270, located in the N-terminal coiled-coil region, are sufficient to localize the protein to the cytoplasm. In addition, mammalian COP1 contains a novel NLS, composed of two clusters of positively charged aa bridged by a RING finger. Note that residues 237-247 is the putative NES by homology. But its sufficiency is not tested.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
