Comments
ASFV causes lethal hemorrhagic disease in domestic pigs. p37 is a major structural protein in ASFV that shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. p37 has 3 NESs: NESs in segments 1-14 and 140-149 (mapped using deletion mutants of segments 1-46 and 46-234 in the presence and absence of LMB; no reporter studies done using short NESs) and a CRM1-independent NES at the C-terminus. Export studies were also done with CRM1 knockdown (RNAi studies). p37 is nuclear early in infection but cytoplasmic later. Note that aa 122-129 resemble a NES. But deletion mutant showed that it is not functional.

User Input
Accurate identification of NESs is difficult because many sequences in the genome match the NES consensus. Therefore, some published NESs may be mistakenly identified. Please help us improve the accuracy of NESdb by providing either a positive or negative flag for the NES in this entry. Supporting comments are required to process the flag.
