Disruption of the MviN open reading frame results in flagellar structures that contain only the basal body and hook complex that lack the flagellum; suggesting that MviN might be involved in flagellin export or assembly []. Genome comparison studies led to MviN being predicted to be a peptidoglycan lipid II flippase though currently there is no direct evidence to support this annotation [].
