PAF-AH is a calcium independent phospholipase A2 which exhibits strong substrate specificity towards PAF, hydrolyzing an acetyl ester at the sn-2 position. PAF-AH also degrades a family of oxidized PAF-like phospholipids with short sn-2 residues. In addition, PAF and PAF-AH are associated with neural migration and mammalian reproduction.

>PF06462 Hyd_WA: Propeller; InterPro: IPR006624 Tectonins I and II are two dominant proteins in the nuclei and nuclear matrix from plasmodia of Physarum polycephalum (Slime mold) which encode 217 and 353 amino acids, respectively. Tectonin I is homologous to the C-terminal two-thirds of tectonin II. Both proteins contain six tandem repeats that are each 33-37 amino acids in length and define a new consensus sequence. Homologous repeats are found in L-6, a bacterial lipopolysaccharide-binding lectin from horseshoe crab hemocytes. The repetitive sequences of the tectonins and L-6 are reminiscent of the WD repeats of the beta-subunit of G proteins, suggesting that they form beta-propeller domains. The tectonins may be lectins that function as part of a transmembrane signalling complex during phagocytosis [].

>cd01821 Rhamnogalacturan_acetylesterase_like Rhamnogalacturan_acetylesterase_like subgroup of SGNH-hydrolases. Rhamnogalacturan acetylesterase removes acetyl esters from rhamnogalacturonan substrates, and renders them susceptible to degradation by rhamnogalacturonases. Rhamnogalacturonans are highly branched regions in pectic polysaccharides, consisting of repeating -(1,2)-L-Rha-(1,4)-D-GalUA disaccharide units, with many rhamnose residues substituted by neutral oligosaccharides such as arabinans, galactans and arabinogalactans. Extracellular enzymes participating in the degradation of plant cell wall polymers, such as Rhamnogalacturonan acetylesterase, would typically be found in saprophytic and plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria.

>PF00185 OTCace: Aspartate/ornithine carbamoyltransferase, Asp/Orn binding domain; InterPro: IPR006131 This family contains two related enzymes: Aspartate carbamoyltransferase (2.1.3.2 from EC) (ATCase) catalyzes the conversion of aspartate and carbamoyl phosphate to carbamoylaspartate, the second step in the de novo biosynthesis of pyrimidine nucleotides []. In prokaryotes ATCase consists of two subunits: a catalytic chain (gene pyrB) and a regulatory chain (gene pyrI), while in eukaryotes it is a domain in a multi- functional enzyme (called URA2 in yeast, rudimentary in Drosophila, and CAD in mammals []) that also catalyzes other steps of the biosynthesis of pyrimidines. Ornithine carbamoyltransferase (2.1.3.3 from EC) (OTCase) catalyzes the conversion of ornithine and carbamoyl phosphate to citrulline. In mammals this enzyme participates in the urea cycle [] and is located in the mitochondrial matrix. In prokaryotes and eukaryotic microorganisms it is involved in the biosynthesis of arginine. In some bacterial species it is also involved in the degradation of arginine [] (the arginine deaminase pathway). It has been shown [] that these two enzymes are evolutionary related. The predicted secondary structure of both enzymes are similar and there are some regions of sequence similarities. One of these regions includes three residues which have been shown, by crystallographic studies [], to be implicated in binding the phosphoryl group of carbamoyl phosphate and is described by IPR006132 from INTERPRO. The carboxyl-terminal, aspartate/ornithine-binding domain is connected to the amino-terminal domain by two alpha-helices, which comprise a hinge between domains [].; GO: 0016597 amino acid binding, 0016743 carboxyl- or carbamoyltransferase activity, 0006520 cellular amino acid metabolic process; PDB: 1ML4_A 4EP1_B 3Q98_A 3E2P_A 2RGW_E 4EKN_B 2G7M_E 3D6N_B 3M4J_A 3L06_A ....

>TIGR01489 DKMTPPase-SF 2,3-diketo-5-methylthio-1-phosphopentane phosphatase. Note that SP|P53981 from S. cerevisiae, a member of this family, is annotated as a "probable membrane protein" due to a predicted transmembrane helix. The region in question contains the second of the three conserved HAD superfamily catalytic motifs and thus, considering the fold of the HAD catalytic domain, is unlikely to be a transmembrane region in fact.
