           3, 4-trisphosphate 5/6-kinase proteins. Inositol
1,3,4-trisphosphate is at a branch point in inositol
phosphate metabolism. It is dephosphorylated by specific
phosphatases to either inositol 3,4-bisphosphate or
           inositol 1,3-bisphosphate. Alternatively, it is
           phosphorylated to inositol 1,3,4,6-tetrakisphosphate or
           inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate by inositol
           trisphosphate 5/6-kinase.

>gnl|CDD|176121 cd08430, PBP2_IlvY, The C-terminal substrate binding of LysR-type
transcriptional regulator IlvY, which activates the
expression of ilvC gene that encoding acetohydroxy acid
isomeroreductase for the biosynthesis of branched amino
acids; contains the type 2 periplasmic binding fold. In
Escherichia coli, IlvY is required for the regulation of
ilvC gene expression that encodes acetohydroxy acid
isomeroreductase (AHIR), a key enzyme in the
biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids (isoleucine,
valine, and leucine). The ilvGMEDA operon genes encode
remaining enzyme activities required for the
biosynthesis of these amino acids. Activation of ilvC
transcription by IlvY requires the additional binding of
           a co-inducer molecule (either alpha-acetolactate or
alpha-acetohydoxybutyrate, the substrates for AHIR) to a
preformed complex of IlvY protein-DNA. Like many other
LysR-family members, IlvY negatively auto-regulates the
transcription of its own divergently transcribed ilvY
gene in an inducer-independent manner. This
substrate-binding domain has significant homology to the
type 2 periplasmic binding proteins (PBP2), which are
responsible for the uptake of a variety of substrates
           such as phosphate, sulfate, polysaccharides,
lysine/arginine/ornithine, and histidine. The PBP2 bind
their ligand in the cleft between these domains in a
manner resembling a Venus flytrap. After binding their
specific ligand with high affinity, they can interact
with a cognate membrane transport complex comprised of
two integral membrane domains and two cytoplasmically
located ATPase domains. This interaction triggers the
ligand translocation across the cytoplasmic membrane
           energized by ATP hydrolysis.

>gnl|CDD|188316 TIGR03414, ABC_choline_bnd, choline ABC transporter, periplasmic
           binding protein. Partial phylogenetic profiling
(PMID:16930487) vs. the genome property of glycine
betaine biosynthesis from choline consistently reveals a
member of this ABC transporter periplasmic binding
protein as the best match, save for the betaine
biosynthesis enzymes themselves. Genomes often carry
several paralogs, one encoded together with the permease
and ATP-binding components and another encoded next to a
           choline-sulfatase gene, suggesting that different
members of this protein family interact with shared
components and give some flexibility in substrate. Of
two members from Sinorhizobium meliloti 1021, one
designated ChoX has been shown experimentally to bind
choline (though not various related compounds such as
betaine) and to be required for about 60 % of choline
uptake. Members of this protein have an invariant Cys
residue near the N-terminus and likely are lipoproteins

>gnl|CDD|213047 cd12100, DD_CABYR_SP17, Dimerization/Docking domain of the sperm
           fibrous sheath proteins, Calcium-Binding
           tYrosine-phosphorylation Regulated protein and Sperm
Protein 17. CABYR and SP17 are naturally located in
human sperm fibrous sheath (FS). CABYR was originally
isolated from spermatoza and was thought to be
testis-specific, but has been recently been observed in
lung and brain tumors. It is a polymorphic calcium
binding protein that is phosphorylated during
capacitation. SP17 plays an important role in the
interaction of sperm with the zona pellucida during
fertilization. It also promotes cell-cell adhesion. SP17
is found in various human tumors of unrelated
histological origin including metastatic squamous cell
carcinoma, multiple myeloma, ovarian cancer, primary
nervous system tumors, among others. Both CABYR and SP17
           contain an N-terminal dimerization/docking (D/D) domain
with similarity to the D/D domain of the R subunit of
cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA). The D/D domain of
the R subunit dimerizes to form a four-helix bundle that
serves as a docking site for A-kinase-anchoring proteins
(AKAPs), which facilitates the localization of PKA to
specific sites in the cell. The D/D domain of CABYR and
SP17 have been shown to bind to AKAP3, a protein that is
also associated to the FS of mammalian spermatozoa.
