For example, Znf-containing proteins function in gene transcription, translation, mRNA trafficking, cytoskeleton organisation, epithelial development, cell adhesion, protein folding, chromatin remodelling and zinc sensing, to name but a few []. Zinc-binding motifs are stable structures, and they rarely undergo conformational changes upon binding their target. This entry represents a zinc finger motif found in the non-structural 5a protein (NS5a) in Hepatitis C virus. The molecular function of NS5a is uncertain, but it is phosphorylated when expressed in mammalian cells. It is thought to interact with the dsRNA dependent (interferon inducible) kinase PKR, P19525 from SWISSPROT [, ]. This region corresponds to the N-terminal zinc binding domain (1a) [].
