>gnl|CDD|233155 TIGR00860, LIC, Cation transporter family protein. The
Ligand-gated Ion Channel (LIC) Family of
Neurotransmitter Receptors TC 1.A.9)Members of the LIC
family of ionotropic neurotransmitter receptors are
found only in vertebrate and invertebrate animals. They
exhibit receptor specificity for (1)acetylcholine, (2)
serotonin, (3) glycine, (4) glutamate and (5)
g-aminobutyric acid (GABA). All of these receptor
channels are probably hetero- orhomopentameric. The best
characterized are the nicotinic acetyl-choline receptors
which are pentameric channels of a2bgd subunit
composition. All subunits arehomologous. The three
dimensional structures of the protein complex in both
the open and closed configurations have been solved at
0.9 nm resolution. The channel protein complexes of the
LIC family preferentially transport cations or anions
depending on the channel (e.g., the acetylcholine
receptors are cationselective while glycine receptors
are anion selective) [Transport and binding proteins,
Cations and iron carrying compounds].

>gnl|CDD|239587 cd03510, Rhizobitoxine-FADS-like, This CD includes the
dihydrorhizobitoxine fatty acid desaturase (RtxC)
characterized in Bradyrhizobium japonicum USDA110, and
other related proteins. Dihydrorhizobitoxine desaturase
is reported to be involved in the final step of
rhizobitoxine biosynthesis. This domain family appears
to be structurally related to the membrane fatty acid
desaturases and the alkane hydroxylases. They all share
in common extensive hydrophobic regions that would be
capable of spanning the membrane bilayer at least twice.
Comparison of sequences also reveals the existence of
three regions of conserved histidine cluster motifs that
contain eight histidine residues: HXXXH, HXX(X)HH, and
HXXHH. These histidine residues are reported to be
catalytically essential and proposed to be the ligands
for the iron atoms contained within homologs, stearoyl
CoA desaturase and alkane hydroxylase.

>gnl|CDD|197876 smart00792, Agouti, Agouti protein. The agouti protein regulates
pigmentation in the mouse hair follicle producing a
black hair with a subapical yellow band. A highly
homologous protein agouti signal protein (ASIP) is
present in humans and is expressed at highest levels in
adipose tissue where it may play a role in energy
homeostasis and possibly human pigmentation.
