>cd04137 RheB Rheb (Ras Homolog Enriched in Brain) subfamily. Rheb was initially identified in rat brain, where its expression is elevated by seizures or by long-term potentiation. It is expressed ubiquitously, with elevated levels in muscle and brain. Rheb functions as an important mediator between the tuberous sclerosis complex proteins, TSC1 and TSC2, and the mammalian target of rapamycin (TOR) kinase to stimulate cell growth. TOR kinase regulates cell growth by controlling nutrient availability, growth factors, and the energy status of the cell. TSC1 and TSC2 form a dimeric complex that has tumor suppressor activity, and TSC2 is a GTPase activating protein (GAP) for Rheb. The TSC1/TSC2 complex inhibits the activation of TOR kinase through Rheb.
