Ornithine amino transferase takes L-glutamate 5-semialdehyde and makes it into ornithine, which is used in the urea cycle, as well as in the biosynthesis of arginine. This model includes low-GC bacteria and eukaryotic species. The genes from two species are annotated as putative acetylornithine aminotransferases - one from Porphyromonas gingivalis, and the other from Staphylococcus aureus. After homology searching using BLAST it was determined that these two sequences were most closely related to ornithine aminotransferases.
