ArsA contains a highly conserved AAA motif present in the AAA+ ATPase superfamily associated with a variety of cellular activities. To form a functional ATP-driven pump, ArsA interacts with the permease ArsB, which is a channel-forming integral membrane protein. One of the most interesting features of ArsA is the allosteric activation by its transport substrates. A divalent cation, typically Mg2+, is required for its enzymatic activity.
