>cd04485 DnaE_OBF DnaE_OBF: A subfamily of OB folds corresponding to the C-terminal OB-fold nucleic acid binding domain of Thermus aquaticus and Escherichia coli type C replicative DNA polymerase III alpha subunit (DnaE). The DNA polymerase holoenzyme of E. coli contains two copies of this replicative polymerase, each of which copies a different DNA strand. This group also contains Bacillus subtilis DnaE. Replication in B. subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus requires two different type C polymerases, polC and DnaE, both of which are thought to be included in the DNA polymerase holoenzyme. At the B. subtilis replication fork, polC appears to be involved in leading strand synthesis and DnaE in lagging strand synthesis.
