IGPS converts N1-(5'-phosphoribulosyl)-formimino-5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide (PRFAR) to imidazole glycerol phosphate (ImGP) and 5'-(5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide) ribonucleotide (AICAR).
