UBL5 (also known as HUB1) is a ubiquitin-like modifier that is both widely expressed and highly phylogenetically conserved. At the C-terminal end of the ubiquitin-like fold of UBL5 is a di-tyrosine motif followed by a single variable residue instead of the characteristic di-glycine found in all other ubiquitin-like modifiers.
