PyMOL of 3d3l

The truncated target structure N-terminus (a His tag replaces the first 171 residues of the protein) displaces an interior helix (residues 395-421) that covers the active site in available templates. The target N-terminus forms a helix that lies perpendicular to the interior template helix (missing in the target) and covers a hydrophobic patch formed by three adjacent helices, suggesting its position is an artifact of the missing target N-terminus. Furthermore, the altered target structure disrupts the coordination of an active site Fe by the C-terminal carboxylate of templates, (the C-terminal residue is missing in the target).
